Treatment for Anxiety

Treatment for anxiety offers the sufferer potential freedom from tremendous mental and in some cases physical stress. The options for treating anxiety fall into two broad categories: Medication or Therapy.

Important Considerations

Treating anxiety is the road to recovering normality in your life. But the most important factor to be aware of before deciding which general route to take in treating your anxiety is to ask yourself: Do you want to treat the symptoms of anxiety or the cause or your anxiety? It is critical to understand the difference between cause and effect when treating this issue.

 Cause or Effect?

A story:
A young lady with spots (effect) on her face went to her local pharmacy for cream. The cream did a wonderful job of drying out the spots but the spots returned. They only stopped when she finally realised the crisps(cause) she ate daily were the problem and gave them up.

Treating Anxiety - To Resolve the Problem not mask the symptoms

The moral is treat the cause if possible and the effects will disappear. Sounds simple but this is often overlooked. Often someone with anxiety is prescribed medication to alleviate the anxiety disorder but all they succeeds in doing is masking the causes of the anxiety. The patient may have some short term benefit or long term reliance on medication but the cause of the anxiety remains. The treatments for anxiety do not always require medication. Therefore it is in the sufferers interest to explore if possible the options in treating their anxiety with professional help on a causal level.
